Hikurangi Homestead is a former family home built in 1911. It became a retirement home in 1947, and ceased this use in 2012. It now operates as a backpackers/B&B for up to 60 people at a time. It is popular because of it's convenient access to the city of Wanganui and the spaciousness of it's accommodation.
